Housing.co.in was another online real estate information aggregator for me until they spent $1 million for housing.com domain name. I was shocked by their decision. If you are making money spending huge sum for better domain name extension doesn’t matter at all. But at an initial stage if you spend $1 million just for the sake of changing domain name from .co.in to .com it doesn’t make much sense to an average person like me. Just dial bought unique toll free number for them at Rs.15,ooo, when they were in nascent stage. . I thought there must be some immature inexperienced IIT grads at this dotcom portal who are burning founder’s money. But slowly it made sense to me as i made myself understand that they are building a brand. Why will they loose traffic at all just for the sake of confusion and ctrl+enter.
How Housing.com started
A group of young grads including Rahul yadav from IITB started searching their house once they passed out of IITB. After lot of searching they found a house near IITB campus. Since they had a huge network of IIT’s friends , they became brokers of Flats and started helping friends. Interestingly they made 1-2 lacs per month from brokerage. They aspired of bringing themselves on national arena and Housing.com was Born on June 2012.
Who is Rahul Yadav of Housing.com and why he is so famous?
Rahul Yadav is the CEO of Housing.com. Like all other disruptors on the planet, he has also got an unusual story. Rahul was born in Alwar, Rajasthan and unlike other fellow IITians he was not on the top of his school batch. He always lived in 20 to 30 rank in his class. In class 10th, one sarcastic comment made by his uncle pushed him to become a topper of physics, Chemistry and mathematics in Rajasthan. He got into IITB and in 2nd year with old questions of IITs, he founded ExamBaba.com. ExamBaba became the official archive of IITs and in the end it was shut down. After returning from internship stint at israel, rahul started building apps for chrome. But eventually dropped his fourth year to join Housing.com.
From the above Fb post you can easily guess how much he loved investors. This became public when he resigned on 5th may with the most kickass resignation letter from a CEO in indian history.
Dear board members and investors, I don’t think you guys are intellectually capable enough to have any sensible discussion anymore. This is something which I not just believe but can prove on your faces also!
I had calculated long back (by taking avg life expectancy minus avg sleeping hrs) that I only have ~3L (hours) in my life. ~3L hrs are certainly not much to waste with you guys!
Hence resigning from the position of Directorship, Chairmanship and the CEO position of the company. I’m available for the next 7 days to help in the transition. Won’t give more time after that. So please be efficient in this duration.
However he rejoined within few days. But few days later he bombed his critics with donating all his shares to employees of Housing.com worth Rs. 200 Crores. Now that’s something which an Insanely historic and unbelievably different Guys like Rahul can do only. Rahul YadavQuoted later <“I’m just 26 and it’s too early in life to get serious about money etc. “. >
His friend Zasveer singh of zozo stay posted on his fb page ….

Changes are not made by sane people trying to match others’s expectations, its made by disruptors like Rahul yadav who believe more in himself rather than others
