Fix Windows 10 Won’t Shut Down, Restarts Instead [Solved]

Method 1: Update your copy of Windows

Updating your computer is a really good idea because Microsoft keeps releasing fixes for existing problems to ensure a secure machine. To update your computer follow the steps below:

1- Open Start menu by clicking on the Windows logo on the bottom left corner of your screen and click on Settings.

3- On the right side of the window, hit Check for Updates to ensure your device is up to date.

Method 2: Disable Fast Startup

 

1- On your keyboard, press the Windows Key & S together.

2- Type Control Panel in the search option and click on it.

3- Change the view of your Control Panel to Small Icons and then click on Power Options.

4- In the left pane of the window, click on choose what the power button does.

5- Click on Change the Settings that are currently unavailable.

6- Now uncheck Turn on fast startup and save the settings.

Method 3: Repair Windows Filesystem

1- Right-Click on the Windows logo to open the WinX menu and click on Command Prompt (admin).

2- Once the command prompt window is open type sfc /scannow.

3- Wait for the process to finish and try shutting down your computer.

Method 4: Shutdown your computer using Command Prompt

A direct shutdown request can be directly issued from the command prompt window.

1- On your keyboard, press the Windows key and S together to open Windows search and type Command Prompt.

2- Right click on the command prompt icon and click on Run as Administrator.

3- A popup for permission will appear, click on yes.

4- Type the following command in your command prompt shutdown -s -f. You will get an alert that your computer will shut down in a minute.

Method 5: Do a System Restore

1-  On your keyboard press Windows key and I together to open the Settings Menu and then click on Update & Security.
